Of South Milwaukee, Born to Eternal Life January 16, 2014 at the age of 94 years. Beloved husband of the late Alice A. Baranowski (Nee Czerwinski). Loving father of Patti (Fiancee Mike Mellott) Baron Schreiber. Best grandfather ever to Stephanie, Jennifer, and Ryan. Dear brother of Elaine (Gil) Habanek. Further survived by other relatives and friends. Preceeded in death by brother Dominick, sister Alice (Late Albert) Sobolik, brother Clarence (late Lorraine), brother Edward (late Dorothy), brother Harold David (late Elaine).
Mike graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1938 and was a lifetime member of St. Adalbert's Parish. He served his church for many years as a trustee, treasurer, usher, athletic association director, coach, choir member, and Holy Name member. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for over 30 years, as well as holding jobs at Gimbels, Sunrise Plaza, Goller-Stein, Bucyrus Erie and Molthen Bell.
Mike was a proud veteran of WWII, having served his country honorably in the 109th Infantry Regement Headquarters Co. 28th Infantry Key Stone Division, also known as the Bloody Bucket Division. He received 5 battle stars, was awarded the Purple Heart in Luxemburg and was in 7 major European battles including Omaha Beach on D Day and Battle of the Bulge.
Mass of Christian Burial Monday, January 20, at 3:00PM at Divine Mercy Catholic Church. 800 Marquette Ave. South Milwaukee. Visitation on Monday from 1:00PM until time of Mass at church. Interment private Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project or South Milwaukee Human Concerns are appreciated.
