Thomas J. Kelly, 93 of Brewster passed away peacefully at his home on March 16. Thomas was born in Boston to Thomas and Elizabeth (Furlong) Kelly. He graduated from Dorchester High School. He served in the US Navy, in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war Thomas worked as a Letter carrier for the UPS for 40 years. He was active member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 34 for over 70 years. He also lived in Hyde Park for 28 years before retiring to Brewster 35 years ago.
Tom was an avid fisherman his entire life catching Stripe Bass up to 50 pounds from the Canal, Third Cliff in Scuiate and Cape Cod Bay. There was no wittiness to these 50 pounders but will take him at his word. Tom was an enthusiastic golfer at the Captain’s Golf Course in Brewster for the past 35 years. Tom loved spending time with his 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren at Greenland Pond.
Thomas joins his beloved wife Mary of 61 years and leaves his 6 children. Thomas W and Jean Kelly of Milton, Janet and Paul McCarthy of Sandwich, Paul and Nancy Kelly of Quincy, David and Jean Kelly of Marshfield, Michael and Patricia Kelly of Weymouth, Timothy and Catherine Kelly of Marshfield. In addition his leaves his brother Robert and Kay Kelly of Quincy. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Ann Hayes, Virginia Doherty, William, Francis, John and Charles Kelly. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday March 21st from 4 to 8 p.m. at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt. 134 South Dennis, MA 02660. His Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 22nd at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Cape Church, Brewster. Interment will take place in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
