Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Robert and Mildred (O’Brien) Regan. Bob was raised and educated in Boston and is a graduate of Hyde Park High School. After high school, Bob served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Margaret A. “Peggy” (Murphy) Regan in 1961 and together they moved to Canton. Bob worked as a sales engineer for a number of companies, while simultaneously earning his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University. He next founded R. Regan Associates, a commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) company in Canton. Meanwhile, his beloved Peggy embarked on a 28-year career as a Boston Public School educator. They lived in Canton for 46 years and then moved to their summer home in West Dennis, MA, where they lived for the last 14 years. They also spent the winters in their home in Long boat Key, FL. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in August 2021.
Dedicated to his family and community, Bob coached youth sports in Canton and was a member of the Canton Recreation Committee. He was also a HVAC instructor at Massasoit Community College for a number of years. His interests included family, golf, ballroom dancing, and physical fitness. Golf was one of his true passions later in life. He and his wife Peggy played golf together year round at both Cape Cod and Florida. He ran the ASHREA annual golf tournament multiple times and was a long-time member of the Dennis Men’s Golf League. Finally, he was a member of the South Shore Ballroom Dancers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 3 devoted sons, Daniel R. Regan and his wife Paula J. of Sykesville, MD, David M. Regan and his wife Jamie M. of Dumfries, VA, and Douglas E. Regan and his wife Louise M. of Yowie Bay, Australia; and his cherished grandchildren; Allison, Patrick, Margaret, Peter, Russell, Ashleigh, Lachlan, Brendan, Mitchell, and Samuel. He was the brother of Carolyn Northon and her husband Karl, Susan Hogan and her late husband Paul, Theresa Forde and her husband William, the late Mary Lou Morris and her late husband Robert, and the late Michael Regan and his surviving wife Marilynne. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Bob’s visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 3-6 PM at the Doane, Beal, & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rt. 134, South Dennis. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 5 Barbara St., South Yarmouth. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Dennis.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center, 2095 Main St., Brewster, MA 02631 – www.alzheimerscapecod.org
