Clarence J. Silvia

Clarence Silvia of Brewster, Massachusetts, passed away on January 8, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 24, 1927, son of Antone Silvia and Edith (Williams) Silvia. He grew up on his grandparents’ farm in Dartmouth, MA.

Clarence was a veteran. He served in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War. He later graduated from Providence College. Subsequently, he moved from New Bedford, MA to East Hartford, CT. He lived in East Hartford thirty years.

For almost thirty years, Clarence worked at Wethersfield High School. He taught in the Foreign Languages Department, and for many years he supervised the Drivers Education Program at the school. While teaching at WHS, he served for a short time as president of the Wethersfield Federation of Teachers. He also taught Spanish a number of semesters at Central Connecticut State University. Upon his retirement in 1984, he moved to his home on Cape Cod.

Clarence was predeceased by his grandparents, parents, his brother Lennie, and his wife, Mary (Flanagan) Silvia, who passed away in 2017. They were married sixty-seven years.

He is survived by his children: Aaron and Shauna Silvia of South Windsor, CT, Dennis and Karen Silvia of Paxton, MA, Clarence and Joan Silvia of Manchester, CT, Anne Silvia of Plymouth, MA, Martin and Susan Silvia of Pahrump, NV, Thomas and Anne Marie Silvia of Falmouth, MA, Robert and Mary Silvia of Wallingford, CT, and Peter and Ellen Lenza of Lakeville, MA; his grandchildren: Matt, Nate, Josh, Lauren, Bryan, Tim, Kate, Mike, TJ, Nicole, Joey, Lauren, PJ, Megan, and Jimmy; his ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Clarence was a devout Catholic. His interests included: spending time with family and friends, travelling, reading, fishing for fluke on Cape Cod Bay, following the New York Yankees and New York Giants, and celebrating holidays, anniversaries, birthdays, and special events.

Funeral Mass in memory of Clarence Silvia will be held at St. Margaret’s Church in Buzzards Bay on Friday, January 13th at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cranberry Hospice of Plymouth.
