Born in New Bedford, beloved son of the late Roland and Edna (Brasseur) Dumas. Loving husband for 51 wonderful years to Helen (Savaria) Dumas.
Graduate of Saint Anthony’s High School and UMASS Amherst, Stockbridge School of Agriculture with a degree in Food Distribution. He was a Sergeant First Class E-7 of the Army National Guard of Massachusetts. He worked for his father, at Roland’s IGA for many years and he was co-owner and operator of Dumas Brothers’ IGA in Cumberland, Rhode Island. He also worked at SuperValu as a food buyer until the company relocated to Virginia. The last five years of his career he was employed at Johnson & Wales University as an admissions representative. He described his work at Johnson & Wales as the best job he ever had because he was working with young students and helping them with their careers.
He enjoyed spending his winters with his beloved wife Helen and all of his great friends in Sarasota, Florida. His most fulfilling role was that of loving husband and brother, encouraging father and grandfather. He had a terrific sense of humor and enjoyed nothing more than laughing and joking with his friends and family. He was an avid golfer and he was a member of the Country Club of New Bedford and Palm Aire Country Club in Sarasota, Florida.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Helen, are his three sons, Michael and his wife Maureen of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, Andrew and his wife Jennifer of Center Valley, Pennsylvania, Matthew and his fiancée, Julie Tuttle of Pomfret Center, Connecticut. In addition, he leaves his loving grandchildren: Michael and Brendan, Katherine and Lauren, Mark and Matthew Dumas and step grandchild, Sarah Tuttle.
He is survived by his siblings Rolande and her husband Richard Koepke of Mashpee, Massachusetts, Marcel and his wife Michelle Dumas of Smithfield, Rhode Island and Norman and his wife Inez Dumas of Castle Rock, Colorado, Suzanne and her husband Robert Rodrigues of West Palm Beach, Florida, Michelle and her husband Steve Forand of New Bedford. He was predeceased by his brother, Jean Paul and his sister Paulette Dumas.
A funeral mass and a celebration of life service at 10 am on Saturday, November 5 at Saint Mary’s Church 783 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Burial will be immediately after the funeral at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bob’s name to: Saint Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Donations will be given towards the renovation of Saint Mary’s Church.
