Joseph L. Avellar, age 70, of New Bedford, passed away very unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He was the longtime companion of Linda Cunha, they had been together for the past twenty six years.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Joseph L. and Olivia (Medeiros) Avellar, he was a life-long resident of the city.
Joe worked in the construction business for many years. An avid New England Patriots and Boston Bruins fan, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, making dinner on the grill during the summer and spending time with his family.
In addition to his companion Linda he is survived by: two sons, Tyron Triguerio and Joseph Avellar; three step-daughters, Melissa Morin, Allison Shivers and Ashley Cunha; seven siblings, Debbi Furtado, Cynthia Rackley, Michael Avellar, Sheila Broyles, Larry, Stephen and Charlie Avellar; his mother-in-law, Anna Rose; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
