She was the widow of Ernest Mathews.
Janice was born in New Bedford to the late Jan Strycharz and Apolonia (Kujawska) Strycharz and lived in the city for most of her life before moving to Dartmouth in 1993. Prior to retirement, she worked as a stitcher in the garment industry for various mills in New Bedford.
Janice loved life, and enjoyed being with family and friends and those who made her laugh. She loved spending time at the beach and enjoyed dancing. She will be sadly missed.
Survivors include her son Richard E. Mathews and his wife, Cheryl M. of E. Freetown, her daughters Rochelle R. Baron and her husband Gary A. of E. Freetown and Michelle P. Augustyn and her husband Joseph of Fairfax, VA; Grandchildren: Clifton, Vanessa, Erica, Catherine and Thomas; Great-Grandchildren Logan, Andrew, Madeline and Parker and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Millie Maty, Olga Looney and Wanda Ouimet.
Her Funeral will be held Monday, July 21, 2014 at 9:00 am from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd, Dartmouth with a Mass at 10:00 am in St. Mary’s Church, Dartmouth St, Dartmouth. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday from 5 to 8 pm. Burial will be private.
