Gilbert was born in New Bedford, a son of the late Joseph and Mary DeEncarnacao (Albino) Nogueria. He resided in North Dartmouth for the last 48 years.
Mr. Nogueira served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and served on the carrier USS Coral Sea (CV-43). Sonny was a member of the VFW Post 6643 in E. Freetown. Mr. Nogueira worked as a “Field Engineer” for Dresser Industries and also Morse Cutting Tools. He graduated from New Bedford Vocational Technical High. He enjoyed dancing, socializing, cooking, gardening, fishing, hunting, raising rabbits, playing cards and bowling. He was an animal lover. Sonny continually donated, to many charities. His greatest love and joy was spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lori A. Ventura of Enfield, CT; a son, Michael Nogueira and his wife Patrice of E. Freetown; his grandchildren, Neil and Harmony Ventura and Amber, Nathan, and Mikayla Nogueira; a sister, Sandra Dompierrie and her husband Donald of Fairhaven; sister-in-law, Maria Nogueira of Ludlow; a son-in-law, Peter Ventura and many godchildren, nieces & nephews.
He was the brother of the late Nancy, Natalie, and Joseph Nogueira, Jr.
His funeral mass will be Monday, August 17, 2015 at 11am in St. George Church, 12 Highland Ave., Westport. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. Visitation will be Sunday 3-6 pm at WARING-SULLIVAN HOME of MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, MA.
