Daughter of Myron and Helen (Rogers) Lawrence, Barbara grew up in Russells Mills Village of Dartmouth. Graduate of Dartmouth High School, 1948, and Framingham State teacher’s college, Massachusetts, 1952, she worked as a Registered Dietician at St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Married 60 years to high school classmate Donald Irwin Richmond, pre-deceased, at Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting House, Dartmouth. They lived in Andover, Massachusetts for 55 years, where they created a property management and commercial real estate business. They often traveled, both in the U.S. and abroad, and wintered in Chokoloskee and Naples, Florida. Building a weekend home in Dartmouth, they eventually fully retired there.
Barbara kept up her dietician’s registration, was a member of the Shawsheen Village Women’s Club in Andover and took great pleasure in a pen pal relationship of over 70 years with a friend in England begun during World War II.
Survived by her children, Laurie Barthold (Thomas) of Maryland, and Peter (Gail) Richmond of Andover and grandchildren Faye (Michael) Morrone, Ross (Kelly) Barthold, Ashley (Dalton) Doherty, Alison Richmond and three great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters Marion Schroeder of Maine and Cynthia (Joe) Tardif of Dartmouth. Preceded in death by brothers Richard (Ellma Ann, now of Fairhaven) and Roger and seventeen of nineteen nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held. Barbara would have wanted any donations to go to Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust at www.dnrt.org as she loved gardening and the natural world.
