James Medeiros, “Jimmy the Cobbler,” age 89, of Somerset, passed away, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Somerset Ridge. He was the husband of Olivia (Faria) Medeiros “Ollie,” to whom he has been married for the past 66 years.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Antone and Maria (Moniz) Medeiros, he lived in Westport before moving to Somerset in the 1960’s.
Mr. Medeiros was the owner and operator of Jimmy the Cobbler on North Main Street in Fall River for fifty years before retiring in 1986.
He was a communicant of St. John of God Church. An avid skier, he belonged to the Fall River Ski Club and enjoyed music and boating.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother: Ronald Medeiros of the Villages, FL, two nephews: Brian Vieira and his wife Suzanne of Somerset, Craig Velozo and his wife Kathleen of Charleston, SC, two nieces: Robin Seitzinger and her husband Donald of Manchester by the Sea, MA, Cheryl Velozo of Somerset, and many great-nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Albertina Alves and uncle of the late Gary Velozo.
His visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 9:30 to 10:30AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Rose E. Sullivan, 866 County St. Somerset, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. John of God of Church, 1036 Brayton Ave., Somerset. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Framingham, MA 02241-7705. Burial private.
