David D. Talbot, age 87, of Somerset, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Fall River, David was the son and youngest of 12 children of the late Mayor Edmond P. Talbot and Alma M. L. (Beaupre) Talbot. Having lived the majority of his life in Fall River, David moved to Somerset in 1985.
David attended St. Anne’s School and graduated from Msgr. Prevost High School in 1943. He had just recently attended his 70th reunion at White’s of Westport which he enjoyed immensely. He went on to attend college at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston. David was active in his fraternity, Kappa Psi, and served as Regent of the fraternity. His studies were interrupted by his military service in the United States Navy during the latter part of the WWII era. After completing his military service, David returned to MCP and graduated.
A Registered Pharmacist by trade, he was the owner and operator of Talbot’s Globe Pharmacy in the south end of Fall River. In addition to pharmacy, he had a varied career. He served as a pharmaceutical consultant to the Director of Civil Defense, a tax assessor for the City of Fall River under Mayor Kane, a staff member for the State auditor, and went on to serve on the communication staff in Boston for Governor Endicott Peabody. David was appointed as a member of the Building Authority for SMTI, now the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, when that campus was initially designed and located in Dartmouth. David went on to be employed at MCI Bridgewater, first as State Hospital assistant Steward for 12 years, then promoted to Chief State Hospital Steward (Purchasing Agent- a job from which he retired. David enjoyed 32 years of retirement!
Throughout his life, David always enjoyed politics and current events. In his younger years he was involved with numerous campaigns and political committees. He served as past chairman of Ward II Democratic City Committee, was a delegate to numerous Democratic State Conventions and was elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1956. He made many notable friends and acquaintances far too numerous to mention locally, statewide, and nationwide.
An avid Boston Sports fan, David had the good fortune to attend numerous Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, and Celtics games with family and close friends. In his retirement years, he discovered gardening and thoroughly enjoyed this new hobby.
David was predeceased by his parents, siblings, spouse of 59 years, Noreen M. (Gill) Talbot, and son- in- law Peter F. Boardman.
David is survived by his daughter Christine M. (Talbot) Boardman, grandchildren Jacqueline M. Boardman, John M. Boardman (wife Kari), Marie A. (Boardman) Rezendes and many cherished nieces and nephews.
