Sally was born May 16, 1933 to Allen F and Regatha L Hankins in Bellingham, WA. She grew up in Alger and Bellingham with her parents and 6 siblings. She is preceded in death by all of them except her baby brother, Allen F Hankins Jr. Sally graduated from Bellingham High School in 1951 and married Richard L Dolan, who passed in 2007, in 1953. She traveled abroad with Richard while he was in the Navy. While in Guam with her eldest child Cathy, she gave birth to Rick in 1958. She then traveled back to the States where she had Holli in 1963. Shortly after, without Richard, but with all 3 children in tow, Sally went to Yokohama, Japan where she gave birth to her youngest child, Merri Anne in 1965. She often talked about that trip, saying if she could do that, she could do anything!!
Sally and Richard divorced in 1977, but thanks to Bill W. she met her soulmate, Gerald A Lind, who passed in 2013. Sally and Jerry got married in October of 1978 and she lovingly welcomed Jerry’s four children as her own, creating an extended family where, amazingly, everyone liked each other.
To be in Sally’s house was to know what welcome truly meant. Every person through the door was a family member to her. Sally also had a gift and that gift was an intuitive understanding of people’s hearts. It seemed she was always honest with you, and simply quiet when she couldn’t be. She always seemed to know what a person needed. These are rare gifts and will be missed by all of us. She brought a smile to everyone she met, and every smile was returned to her in kind because you couldn’t help but like this tiny firecracker of a woman. Her family will miss her. Her laugh, her smile, her wisdom, her voice and the twinkle in her eye when she shared a joke with you.
She is survived by her children Cathy(Norman) Larsen, Richard(Eva)Dolan, Holli(Stanley) Waggoner, Merri Anne(Clifton) Allen, Karen(Steven) Mast, Christopher(Deborah) Lind, Mary(Bruce) Clemens and Thomas(Michaelann) Lind, 17 Grandchildren and 23 Great Grandchildren.
Services will be held in the spring. Location and date TBD at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Snohomish Health and Rehab Center for their tender care of our mother.
Although you’re Gone
Although you’re gone, I’m not alone
and never shall I be
For the precious memories of the bond we shared Will never depart from me.
Our love surpassed the up’s and downs
And helped us along the way.
And that same love will give me strength To manage this loss each day.
On my mind and in my heart
Mom, you shall forever be.
For just as much as I am a part of you, You will always be a part of me.
