Kevin Teh-Seng West, 64, entered into rest, peacefully with family by his side on February 22, 2023. Throughout his life, Kevin had several passions, but none more important to him than serving the Lord. He was an active minister who loved to travel and visit with brethren across the country, talking on the word and spreading the gospel.
Kevin, born November 24, 1958 in Taiwan, was adopted as an infant by Otto and Gene West. At the age of 4 he became a U.S. Citizen. As part of a military family, he moved extensively throughout the southern United States including California, Arizona and New Mexico before settling in the Oklahoma City area. At 8 years old, Kevin’s adoptive mother Gene passed away.
At the age of 14 Kevin and Otto moved to Snohomish, WA where he would go on to graduate from Snohomish High School in 1977, and began attending college, where he made the Dean’s list. In the fall of 1978, he was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. In June of 1979, he began dating Cyndi (Cynthia) Mathews, and they were married on August 2, 1980. In 1981 at the age of 22, Kevin’s first son was born, and over the next 10 years he would have 4 more sons and 1 daughter.
Kevin had many interests and hobbies, including site seeing everywhere in Washington State, road trips throughout the USA, volunteering in the local food pantry, and coaching youth sports. As the children grew up, he became involved in their school activities as well, chaperoning band trips and field trips, supporting PTA, boosters and fundraising.
Being raised by a single parent from such a young age instilled a deep work ethic in Kevin. While in High School, he was made a Manager at Herfy’s Burger, and he would go on to hold several other management positions at companies throughout his career, including Polytel and Glenn’s Welding. When the recession hit in 2009, he returned to college, graduating with his youngest son in 2011. He would go on to become a Project Manager at ABW Welding, and finally Safety Educators, before a stroke forced him into retirement in 2017 at 59 years old.
In the last several years of Kevin’s life, he poured his remaining time into studying the scriptures, attending church meetings at every opportunity, and teaching all he visited with.
Kevin was preceded in death by his mother Gene West, father Otto West, father-in-law RJ Mathews and mother-in-law Shirley Mathews. He is survived by his wife Cynthia West of Marysville, WA, son Aaron West and wife Lisa of Lake Stevens, son Christopher West and wife Jennifer of Purcell, OK, daughter Andrea Corter and husband Mitchell of Newalla, OK, son Brandon West and wife Amanda of Choctaw, OK, son Drew West of Springfield, MO and son Taylor West and wife Laura of Tulalip, WA, 17 grandkids, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
