John Carl Barnes

John Carl Barnes was born July 10, 1938, to John Kenneth Barnes and Beatrice Anne Wilde Barnes in Portland, Oregon. After his father's untimely death in 1949, John moved with his mother and two sisters to Seattle. He attended Assumption School, Seattle Prep, and graduated from Seattle University after five years in the US Marine Corps.

John married Sandra Stevens in 1968. They had two daughters. After retiring from teaching and coaching in the Auburn School district, John drove a shuttle van for Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center for over 20 years.

John was a natural athlete and avid sports fan. He played golf and softball well into his seventies. He was hard working, conscientious, and gregarious. He was the epitome of a faithful husband and loving father and grandfather.

John died Nov. 01, 2022 at age 84. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, his daughters, Karla Barnes Jackson (John) and Lynelle Barnes Cangie; grandchildren, Tanner Lewis Jackson, Lauren Deanne Cangie, and sisters, Barbara Barnes Fernandez (Don), and Hailey Audrey Cangie, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by sister, Joanne Barnes Manzo. A family memorial service has been held. In lieu of flowers, please send your donations to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Thank you!
