August 22, 1926-October 26, 2018 Dad began his life in Snohomish, WA on August 22, 1926. He completed his life in Snohomish on October 26, 2018. The Lord gave him a full life with much to be proud of. Dad enlisted in the Navy (WWII) at the age of 17, he was still in high school. His dad gave him permission only if he promised to complete school once he returned. Two years later he came home, went back to school and was voted yell leader for games. (He must have wanted to be around the cheerleaders?) He was a determined man, never shying away from hard work. He was a proud member of Zion Lutheran Church in Snohomish since his birth. He was a member, and previous commander of the VFW. Volunteering his time collecting donations, poppies in hand, at Safeway in May and November. His biggest joy was fishing, crabbing, clamming. Just being near the water he was content. Thanks to all who were able to take him out on their boats. Especially the past three years. You have no idea how happy this made him. He was also an avid gardener. He could make anything grow. Summertime was a time of parades. Dad marched with the Sauerkraut Band playing his glockenspiel and making people laugh. He was honored to be Grand Marshal in the Kla Ha Ya parade this past summer. Mom was called to heaven three years prior. She and Dad had been married 67 years. Dad took her passing very hard. He was preceded to Heaven by his father, mother, three brothers and one sister. He leaves behind his sisters, Phyllis (Rodney) and Shirley (Marlin); also his children, Jon (Ginny), Sally (Barney), Gayl (Leonard), Vicki (John); four grandchildren, Kimberley, Aaron, Summer (Joleen) and JP (Jon Paul); also seven great grandchildren, Kyle, Karrah, Cheyenne, Sara, Elias, Ainsley and Pria. A BIG thank you to Gayl, always there for both Dad and Mom, never wavering. Words cannot express our gratitude for her unconditional support in their care. Also to Hospice of Providence, truly a Godsend in dad's time of need. Donations in Dad's memory can be sent to Hospice of Providence or Zion Lutheran Church. Viewing will be November 6, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bauer Funeral Home in Snohomish. Services for Dad will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Snohomish. We love you Dad. We pray you are with Mom in eternity.
