Doris Ann Ollom

Doris A. Ollom, 82, of Snohomish, WA, passed away May 11, 2018, after her battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Doris was born December 30, 1935, in Seattle, WA, to parents Herbert and Frances Huff. She was the beloved wife of LaVern Ollom for over 58 years who preceded her in 2013. They were married in August of 1955 and were proud to make Snohomish their home for the remainder of their lives.

She is survived by children, Jana (Glen) Fisher and Keith (Melodie) Ollom; granddaughter, Kacie Ollom and grandson, Kolten Ollom; nieces, Noralyn (Ray) Johnson and Kathi Stroh; and nephew Jim Ollom.

Doris moved with her parents from Seattle to the Lake Roesiger area in 1942, where she attended Forest Glade Elementary through 8th grade, and graduated from Snohomish High School in 1953.

She worked at Darigold in Snohomish for 10 years, in the bookkeeping department, and was introduced to LaVern through his brother at Darigold. Following that, Mom took a position as a Teacher’s Aid with the Snohomish School District where she worked for over 34 years and truly loved the kids. She worked at all of the grade schools in Snohomish but the majority of her time was spent at Machias Elementary from which she retired from in 2003. She got a big kick out of the adult children she would run across over the years that would remember her from recess duty and share their memories.

After Mom’s retirement, she and Dad were able to spend more time between their Chelan and Snohomish homes listening to Mariner games and having friends and family gather to enjoy their views and play card games. Mom “loved” their August anniversary trips to Reno, sometimes with friends or family, and more recently the local casinos. She always looked forward to both her and Dad’s high school reunions every summer, which they never missed, and was looking forward to seeing classmates at her 65th this summer. Mom insisted on organizing an annual yard sale and loved visiting with everyone who came by. She was a member of the Snohomish Senior Center where she enjoyed monthly luncheons, music events, and bus rides. She looked forward to the weekly bingo nights and taco nights out with family. Mom was always up for the next event (big or small) and happy to ride along “wherever” us kids or grandkids took her. She was most happy just sitting and enjoying the view of the Cascade Mountains and Pilchuck Valley from the home and neighborhood they helped build on North Ridge overlooking their original farm below. She has had many great neighbors over the years that looked out for her and Dad, and she and our family appreciate them all for making it such a friendly community to live in.
