Dale R. Pope

Dale was born on November 25, 1934 to Frances and Ordina (Kueling) Pope, in Tulalip, Washington, and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, with Marion by his side, on November 25, 2012, his 78th birthday.

Dale attended Everett Schools, and entered the US Army on August 4, 1953. He was part of the German Occupation forces. He rose to Staff Sergeant at 18 years old. He served in the Combat Engineers building roads and bridges and was in charge of building a Bailey pontoon Bridge across the Rhine River, in the event it was necessary to evacuate US troops across the river. The bridge remains to this day as part of the German War Museum, outside the Karlsruhe, Germany. Dale returned to Everett in 1958 and worked for the Boeing Company making templates for the 707. He also worked at various sawmills, then joined the Everett Police reserves, with the intention of becoming a full time police officer. He joined the Everett Police Department full time on January 2, 1960, working in every division except narcotics. He was the department's public relations officer, crime prevention specialist, and the department's fingerprint expert.

In his crime prevention role, he put together a self-protection program for women and he spoke to numerous women's groups throughout Snohomish County. He attended the National Crime Prevention Institute at the University of Louisville, and while attending there, he also taught self protection for women to police officers from across the US. Dale started the Chaplains Bureau for the Everett Police Department and instigated several other programs for home and business security.

After a heart attack in 1977, Pope retired from the police department and later ran for Everett City Council. He remained on the city council until 2003. He was Council President five times and Budget Chairman 12 times.

Dale was active in his church, Grace Lutheran in Everett, serving as Vice President and President of the church council.

He was married to Marion (Hoff); and the father of Robert and Bill Pope; step-father, to Kevin Potter; all of the Everett area and grandfather to, Joshua Pope, of Carson City, NV.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frances Earnest Pope; mother, Ordina Helena (Kueling) Pope; his brother, Clyde; and sisters, Helena Wraspir and Stahr Allene Pope.

He is survived by his wife, Marion; his sons, Robert, Bill, and Kevin; and grandson, Joshua; and nephews and nieces.

Funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 8401 Holly Drive, Everett, on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11 a.m..

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Providence General Hospital Foundation, in memory of Dale.
