Mildred Lorraine Norby “Millie” Wright was born on June 8, 1917 in Evansville, Wisconsin. Her parents emigrated from Norway in 1902 and 1903 and met in Chicago, Illinois, where they married and raised a family of seven children after moving to Wisconsin. After high school, Millie attended secretarial school.
She met her husband, Wilkes, in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. H. Wilkes Wright was born in Lake Forest, Illinois, on May 12, 1913, and died on June 11, 1990. He taught at the University of Minnesota while he was working on his PHD and was a clinical psychologist with the Veteran’s Administration until his retirement. During their marriage they lived in Minnesota, Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
During World War II, Millie was a civilian employee in the War Department as a secretary and stenographer. Wilkes was an Intelligence Officer in the United States Army, stationed in the Caribbean. Millie enjoyed gardening and sewing and was a talented artist. She was a collector of art and also an avid reader.
Surviving children are Sheila Wright Ross (Phil) of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Roger S. Wright of Lilburn, Georgia, and Jeffrey M. Wright (Bonnie) of Dacula, Georgia. She is also preceded in death by her son, Gregory W. Wright, of Atlanta, Georgia, who died on December 6, 2018. In addition, Mildred had eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Interment will be at the Eternal Hills Memory Gardens in Snellville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to a charity of your choice.
