Carissa Gail Fletcher was born on May 28, 1982, in Lawrenceburg Indiana as the 4th child to Andrew & Frances Rosalie Fletcher. From an early age, Carissa knew she wanted to be a teacher, and as she progressed through her childhood she never swayed from that.
Carissa got married at an early age to Glendon Martin in 2004 and gave birth to their firstborn, a daughter Sajae Alicia Kaye Martin that same year. Carissa graduated from Georgia State University and got her BS in Education in 2007. She went on to pursue a Master’s in Education and graduated from Walden University in 2012. She completed her final degree in 2014 graduating from Piedmont College with an Education Specialist degree. Carissa was surprised with a new baby in 2018 with the birth of their 2nd born, a son Kade Anthony Dwayne Martin. While this was initially intimidating any anxiety around being what felt like a 1st-time mom again with a 14-year age gap between her kids quickly changed. Kade or as she affectionately called him “Kadester” brought new beginnings and new perspectives.
Carissa’s career took her throughout Gwinnett County doing what she loved where she taught at Cedar Hill for several years and landed at Starling Elementary where she taught 3rd and 1st grade. She loved what she did and she was always looking for ways to implement new things in her classroom.
Carissa’s love for teaching was evident in every aspect of her life just ask her nieces and nephews. An Auntie’s love like no other, her nephews, nieces, godchildren, and her friend's children all were benefactors of her big heart. She was present for each one individually and collectively and they loved going to Auntie Keri’s house.
Carissa attended Gracepointe Nazarene Church and was active within her school community as well as supporting her students as much as she could when invites would come her way.
