July 22, 1927 - July 4, 2011
Loy was the last of eight children born to John and Buelah Belle O'Grady in Port Arthur, Texas. He died surrounded by his loved ones on the 4th of July after a brief illness.
After joining the U.S. Navy in April of 1945, Loy received the World War II Victory Medal. He then attended North Texas State University in Denton, Texas and while there met and fell in love with the woman he would be married to for 59 years, Joyce. They made their home in Texas City, Texas where Loy was employed by Monsanto Chemical Company as a Chief Operator. They raised four daughters while in Texas City and retired in 1991 to their country home near Smithville, Texas. Loy was a loyal University of Texas sports fan, a staunch Democrat, and, as anyone who knew him would tell you, he loved a good argument.
Loy was preceeded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He leaves behind his wife, Joyce; his daughters Mary Kate O'Grady, Rose O'Grady, Karen Crawford Hurd and husband Mike, and Kelly Dorsey; his grandchildren Buck Douglas Crawford, Richard McAdams, Ty McAdams, Matt McAdams, Travis Dorsey, Jessica Hurd, and Julia Hurd; and two great-grandchildren, Sage McAdams and Auroara McAdams.
Memorial Services will take place at a later date.
