He was born on Dec. 17, 1925 in Manila, Philippines, the son of Ke Hang Sy and Oh Lim.
He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, School of Medicine in 1952, receiving a medical degree.
Vincente worked at Deaconess Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital and Boston City Hospital where he met Joan C. Sy (Blaney). They were soon married and spent the next 62 years together.
He completed a teaching fellowship in surgery at Harvard University and completed work in Delaware and New Jersey. He moved his family to Bingham in 1962 where he practiced for many years in the Bingham and Skowhegan areas as a physician. Although his specialty was in urology, he cared for and touched the lives of hundreds of patients as their family physician and delivered too many children to count. In addition, Vincente was also a Medical Examiner for the State of Maine.
Vincente and his wife Joan were both pilots. He owned and flew his Piper Cherokee plane for years. Vincente loved playing his violin, was an avid reader, loved listening to music and took great pride in all the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family was everything to him.
He is survived by his wife Joan Sy, of Norridgewock, his family, Vincent A. Sy of Cumberland Center, Maine, his children: Vincente and Branden; Louis Sy of South Portland, Maine, his children: Amanda and Anthony; Richard Sy of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, his children: Richard Jr., Francis, and Philip; Theresa Sy Bugay of West Lafayette, Indiana and her children ; Christopher, Ryley, Kyle, and Samantha; Lydia Sy of Waterville, Maine, and her children ; Chad, Jessie, Ryan, and Taylor; Robert Sy of Manila Philippines and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Yao Sy, Estrella S. Go, and Aurora B. Aragon; and two brothers: Odelon (Abing) Bautista, and Jose Bautista, all from Manila, Philippines. Dozens of nieces and nephews in the Philippines and the United States.
He is predeceased by brothers, Luis and Eugenio (Akim) and sister, Lydia.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday April 21, 2018, at 10:00 am at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Water St., Skowhegan, Maine. Internment will be in the spring.
