She was born as Laura Moody to Edna Moody on December 7, 1925 in Portland, Maine. Polly was lovingly placed with Fred and Mary Cox of Skowhegan on January 28, 1926 and was adopted on March 16, 1929. Fred and Mary adopted two more girls to complete their family.
Polly attended Skowhegan Area High School and received her GED. Polly married Felix Lanctot on October 6, 1944. Polly worked for the A& P grocery store in the 50’s and 60’s and then at Stern’s Department Store in the 70’s and 80’s. She trained to be a C.N.A. and worked at Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan until 1990. In 1991, Polly and Felix moved to Ocala, Florida and returned to Maine in 2002. They enjoyed their time in the sun and made many lasting friendships.
Felix predeceased Polly in July 23, 2004. After Felix passed, Polly volunteered at Redington Fairview General Hospital and was Volunteer of the year. She had over 2700 hours. She made many lasting friends at the hospital. Polly often spoke of her best friend, Lorraine and the good times they had. Thank You Lorraine.
Lucien Lapointe was a special friend in Polly’s life. She lost Lucien on November 25, 2014.
Polly moved to Freeport on May 26, 2012 and returned to Skowhegan on December 31, 2012. She resided at the Redington Home in Skowhegan for a year. From there she moved to Cedar Ridge Health Care Center in Skowhegan. Starting in April, Polly was helped by Beacon Hospice. Polly received wonderful care at Cedar Ridge.
Felix and Polly had three children. She is survived by her children, William Lanctot and his wife Donna of Wales, Carol Lanctot Thebarge and her husband Alphe Binette of Freeport, and Danny Lanctot and his wife Peggy of Norridgewock. Peggy was a special angel to Polly and is very loved.
Also surviving Polly were her five grandchildren, Jessica Rac of Skowhegan, Jeffrey Thebarge of Smithfield, Tory Lanctot of Burleson, TX, Danny Lanctot of Norridgewock, and Pike Lanctot of Skowhegan. Polly was blessed with 15 wonderful great-grandchildren with whom she enjoyed spending time with. Polly is survived by her sister Bessie Ruth Cox Dunlop of Appomattox, VA, and predeceased by her sister Montez Watson. She was survived by many nieces and nephews.
Polly truly loved by her family. As your daughter, it was an honor not only to call you Mom, but also call you my best friend. I enjoyed our many talks. You are the greatest person I have ever known.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday June 24, 2015 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. A funeral service will follow the viewing at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Southside Cemetery in Skowhegan.
