Nason, Leon E., 71, a lifelong resident of Skowhegan passed away October 1, 2016 at his home after brief illness. He was born in Skowhegan on January 31, 1945 to Arthur C. and Blanche (McGuire) Nason.
Leon graduated from Bloomfield Academy in 1963 and entered the Ironworkers Apprenticeship Program. He was among the first graduating class in 1966, being a 40+ year member of the Ironworkers Local #496.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his earlier years and enjoyed riding his Harley Davison Motorcycle. In 1969 he was a World Champion Snowmobile Racer and won many other races throughout the United States. Leon was a former member of the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #1457.
He was predeceased by her parents and son Chad Nason.
Leon is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Deanna of Skowhegan, son, Leon A. Nason and his companion Tabatha of Skowhegan, daughter, Nicole Carter and her 3 children of Skowhegan, granddaughters, Shauni and Sierra Nason and 1 great-grandson, Kruize, all of Utah, god-daughter, Whitney Parlin and her son Mason of Skowhegan, god-son, Brian Parlin and his companion Kelsey of Madison, cousins, Joan Gatcomb of East Machias and Paul McGuire of Farmington along with many, many, friends.
Leon’s family would like to thank the staff of Beacon Hospice for the kind care given to Leon and his family over the past few months.
A graveside service will be held Saturday October 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Southside Cemetery in Skowhegan. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
