She was born in Avon, Maine on April 29, 1933, the eldest daughter of Elbridge and Mary Vining. She was educated in Madison, Maine. She was married on May 28, 1953 to Donald McKenney, who died on August 8, 1989.
Prior to her retirement, Joyce worked as the switchboard operator at Redington Fairview General Hospital for 25 years. After her retirement, she kept busy by volunteering at both Redington Fairview and at the Christ the King Parish Soup Kitchen.
She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who took great pride in her grandchildren’s many accomplishments.
She was a faithful member of Christ the King Parish in Skowhegan and attended mass regularly.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and also enjoyed her many walks with her friends. She also enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit her family.
One of her hobbies was collecting magents from the different locations that her family had traveled to.
Survivors include her daughter, Dona McKenney; two grandsons, Derek Thebarge and wife Julie and Kris Thebarge and wife Lindsey; five great-grandchildren Matthew and Rachael Thebarge, Kallaway Thebarge, Tyler Elliott and Lexi Elliott; brothers William and wife Carolyn Vining, Jack and wife Joan Vining, Richard and wife Betty Vining and sisters Barbara Stevens, Maryanne Luce, and Kathy Stevens; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother Elbridge Vining and sister Joanne Wing.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Redington Fairview General Hospital and Maine Medical Center for their care and kindness.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Church in Madison on August 28, 2021 at 10AM followed by a graveside service at Forest Hill Cemetery.
