Often known as Jim or Jimmy, he was born on December 27, 1952 in Skowhegan, Maine to Lowell and Helen (Foster) Steward. He spent most of his childhood growing up in Concord Township with his siblings Diane Steward, Barbara (Jim) Bubar, Deborah (Bruce) Moore, Steven (Merlene) Steward and Russell (Connie) Steward, where he graduated from Upper Kennebec Valley High School in 1971.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Secha (Stevens) Steward; his daughter Tonya Stevens and her husband Derek of Las Vegas, Nevada; his son Joshua Steward and his wife Annette of Smithfield, Maine; and his son Lucas Steward of Monroe, North Carolina. He was an extremely proud grandfather to Cassidy, Ellie, Gavin, Dalton (Katie), Jacob and Charlotte, as well as a great grandfather to Finnley. He has numerous in- laws, cousins, nieces and nephews that were also an important part of his life. Although he had many acquaintances, he cherished his friendships with those that he was close to and had shared a long history with.
Jim began working at a young age helping and working with his family in the woods. Once married and with kids, Jim spent most of his working life in the construction business. He was semi-retired but never really liked to sit around for too long. He was always finding something to work on or do to stay busy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping…anything to do with being outdoors. He especially liked to pass on his knowledge and expertise to his children and grandchildren. He gave them many life lessons that they will forever cherish. Jim was a man of few words, but was always willing to help his family and friends when they needed him. He enjoyed traveling occasionally, but usually if it meant visiting his family. Maine was his favorite place to be.
He is predeceased by his parents Lowell and Helen Steward, his father and mother in-law Leslie and Eileen Stevens, his brother in-law Jack McCollor, his sister in-law Jane Stevens, nephew Kevin McCollor and niece Kasi Gajtkowski.
A graveside service and celebration of life will take place in the summer of 2022 at the Pleasant Ridge Plantation Cemetery. Arrangements have been made through Smart and Edwards Funeral Home in Skowhegan, Maine.
