George G. Blair

Born in Auburn, Maine on July 10, 1933, George was the son of George Blair, Sr. and Ernestine Faucher Blair.

George grew up in Auburn and attended Auburn schools. George was an only child, but growing up his best friend was his cousin Robert (Bob) Turcotte, whom he affectionately referred to as his “brother”. He joined the United States Air Force at age 17, and served during the Korean conflict as an aerial photographer and tail gunner. He received an honorable discharge in 1954.

George worked many jobs during his life. He was a chef at Keene State College, he was an accomplished carpenter, and he joined the pipe fitters union when he began work at Bath Iron Works, where he worked until he retired.

George was a generous, kind and caring man who gave his help unselfishly whenever and wherever it was needed. He loved being a Kora Shriner clown and particularly loved clowning for the children at the Shriners Burns Institute in Springfield, MA.

George was a devoted husband and best friend to his wife Joyce, and they spent many happy years together. They enjoyed many years as members and officers of Pine Grove Chapter 26 Order of the Eastern Star in Auburn. When they retired, they spent winters in Florida and summers in Freeport, Maine. George loved his family and spending time with them. He was a loving father and grandfather and gave selflessly to his family. He loved cooking for the family and hosted many wonderful gatherings and feasts.

George is survived by his sons, Gary Blair and wife Melanie, and Ricky Blair; his step-daughter Mary Ellen Pinkham and her husband Doug, his step-daughter-in-law Melanie Edwards, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Joyce Blair, his son Dave Blair, and his step-son Mark Edwards.

Because George made a decision to believe in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, his family is comforted in knowing their parting is temporary and George is blessed and whole in the presence of his Lord.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the nurses and staff at Togus Community Living Center Patriot’s Place for their care of George these past 8 years. We cannot begin to express our gratitude for the love and excellent care he received as a resident there.
