Yvonne Dorothy Tong (née Rogers) was born on July 30, 1932, in Georgetown, Guyana, to Albert Christopher Rogers and Muriel Augustus Rogers. She attended Tutorial High School and Mrs. Young’s School for Secretaries and Stenographers. After graduation, she worked as an Administrative Assistant to Mr. Patrick Ng Yow, the Vice President of Auto Supplies Company, and later at Guyana National Engineering Corporation (GUYNEC) in an administrative role. In 1989, she moved to the United States and worked in administrative roles at a major insurance company before transitioning to become a Nurse Aide, caring for elderly patients in assisted living facilities. Yvonne cherished her family, music, dancing, learning new languages, and being with young people.
She is survived by her children Lorraine (Royston), Ulric Jnr. (Felicia), and Christopher (Lena), grandchildren Christopher, Nicholas, Marcus, Anthony, Kaylah, Christopher Jnr., great-grandchildren Davis and Nina Rose DeSouza, sisters Patricia Bates (née Rogers) and Pamela Archer (née Rogers), and numerous nieces and nephews. Yvonne was predeceased by her brothers Fitzhurbert and Frank Rogers, her sister Ouida Davies (née Rogers), and her husband Ulric Tong (Snr.).
Yvonne's legacy is one of love, resilience, and dedication. Her warm spirit and caring nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She was a pillar of strength for her family and a beacon of hope for those she cared for in her professional life. Her passion for learning was evident throughout her life, as she continuously sought to expand her knowledge and skills. She brought joy not only to herself but also to those around her, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
Yvonne's unwavering commitment to her family was the cornerstone of her existence. She took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, fostering a sense of unity and love that will undoubtedly continue for generations.
