Virginia Veronica Scott was born on April 17, 1958 to Evelyn and Herbert Hylton in Seaford Town, Westmoreland, Jamaica. She was the youngest of eight, and loved her brothers and sisters immensely. She was the baby and quickly earned the nickname Vee or Virgie.
Virginia immigrated to the United States as a teenager and attended West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA before graduating from Chestnut Hill College with a Bachelor of Science, Biochemistry degree.
Starting a new life in Philadelphia was hard, but eventually Virginia landed her dream job at Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical (J&J), where she worked as a Scientist for nearly 30 years. She moved to Elkins Park, PA in the late 1980’s and raised her three sons, Troy, Travis and Chris Scott.
In addition to being a mother, Virginia had a great love for Reggae music, especially Beres Hammond. She collected records, enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. Virginia was sweet, funny, and at times sassy, but had a heart of gold and welcomed anyone into her home, including the occasional door to door salesperson who she would talk to for hours. Virginia had a way of making everyone feel like family and would greet strangers with a smile.
For the past 10 years, Virginia battled early onset dementia, and regrettably lost the fight on Monday, June 17, 2024. She is survived by her sons: Troy, Travis, Chris; daughters-in-law: Elizabeth and Heather; granddaughters: Eva and Naomi; sisters: Miranda, Janette, Laurice, and Lorraine; brother: Astley; and predeceased by her mother Evelyn, father Herbert, and brothers Michael and Delroy. She also leaves to mourn a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Let’s take comfort in a favorite memory that keeps Virginia's presence alive so that her spirit may live on forever.
A celebration of life memorial service for Virginia will be held Sunday, July 14, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904.
