It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sharon Ann Lowman Brown, who transitioned peacefully on December 3, 2024, in Washington, D.C., surrounded by her children. She was 80 years old. Born on July 24, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, Sharon was the cherished daughter of Samuel Lowman and Muriel Findling Lowman, both of whom have predeceased her. She was raised in Baltimore, where she created a lifetime of memories, and although she spent her later years in Washington, D.C., her heart always remained firmly rooted in her beloved hometown. She was a proud Baltimorean to the core.
Sharon’s life was deeply marked by love for her family, and the simple joys of life. She was united in marriage to Boyd Wagner Brown, her high school sweetheart, in 1962. Boyd remained her entire world until his passing on July 13, 2002, and together they shared a beautiful life of 40 years. Sharon was the proud mother of four children by the tender age of 23—Lisa (married to Phil), David (prev married to Kerry), Todd (married to Alyse), and Kelly (married to Jim now deceased)—and her role as a mother was the centerpiece of her life. She devoted her life to raising and tirelessly supporting them in all of their activities from baton twirling, dancing, and sports such as softball, baseball and football. She was also the adoring grandmother of Katelynn, Sam, Aubrey, James, Emma, Christopher, Owen, Maura, Alexandra, John Austin and Avery, and a proud great-grandmother to Sophia. Sharon’s love for her family knew no bounds, and she delighted in each new generation, becoming an important figure in her grandchildren’s lives, leaving an indelible impression. Sharon was gifted with babies and helped many families as a caretaker when her own children were grown.
Equal to her love for her children was her love for the beach, where she found peace and happiness, particularly when she was with her beloved grandparents, Mom Mom and Pop Turner, and her parents, Sam and Muriel. Multi-generations shared memorable trips together to Ocean City , Maryland. Boyd and Sharon retired to Key West, Florida, and after his passing she eventually found solace in the shores of Bethany Beach. She often spoke of those cherished times spent by the water, a place that brought her so much joy, and led to a fascination of mermaids, which no doubt reminded her of the ocean’s magic and mystery. Sharon was also an avid reader, with a particular fondness for novels that allowed her to explore new worlds. She enjoyed singing in the choir at her retirement home, where she found community and camaraderie in sharing music with others. An avid animal-lover, with an affection for exotic birds, Sharon lovingly cared for a number of dogs throughout her life, including Gabby, Casey, Suki, Barney, Brandy, and Coco, among others, which she also considered her children.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Glen Haven Memorial Park, located at 7231 Ritchie Highway Suite E, Glen Burnie MD on December 14th, Saturday at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to the American Heart Association for her large heart that never ceased giving (Heart.org/donate). May she rest in peace once again reunited with her beloved Boyd, Sam, and Muriel enjoying the ultimate crab feast in heaven.
