Ruth Murphy was born on Monday, September 18, 1950 to Linton and Hazel Murphy (both deceased) in St. Ann, Jamaica and died on Saturday May 14, 2022. She was 71 years old. Ruth is mourned and fondly missed by her sons Marvin "Terry" Thomas and Ahmadd "Sean" Simpson; her grandchildren Deaijah and Di’Shon; and her siblings Joyce, Bradley "Captain", Peter "Dave", Cartia "Calvrey", Maxine "Hope", Feona, and Linton, Jr. She is survived by her nieces Kim, Laurie Ann, and Terrian, and her nephews Coy, Jermaine, Gary, and Dominic, as well as other family members.
Ruth immigrated to the United States in the early 1970’s, but her love of family and homeland drew her back to Jamaica on a regular basis. At a very young age Ruth showed a love for the great outdoors. For her the height of a tree was no problem if she wanted to handpick its fruit.
In 1983 Ruth began working for the Montgomery County Government and worked tirelessly until she retired in March of 2022 when her illness no longer permitted her to work.
Known for her generosity, Ruth took every opportunity to help those she knew who were in need. After a careful study of the Bible, she made a commitment to live according to God’s standards and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on November 9, 2008.
Comments from her brother, Bradley: “Ruth always acted as the big sister to the rest of us. You see, she was a tremendous help to Joyce and myself when we were going to school because she was in charge of the lunch money, so we did not have to worry about that. Years after she migrated to the US, our mother would look forward to seeing her every December for at least six weeks. I will never forget the time she took our mother to see the Bob Marley statue and museum, which they totally enjoyed. I will forever miss her, and trust me the pain is real.”
Comments from her sister, Joyce: “Ruth was my dearest sister. We enjoyed many years together in Jamaica and the US, we went on many exciting vacations together, and late night chats to catch up on Jamaica were a constant. I will always treasure the trust she had in me. Even though the loss is temporary, l will miss her dearly. I am yearning for the time when Jehovah will resurrect her so that we can enjoy life as God meant it to be, free from suffering, and rich with joy and laughter forever.”
Comments from her brother, Peter: “Sister Ruth, you meant the world to me, only a heart as dear as yours could give so unselfishly. The many things that you have done, and all the times that you were there, have reinforced in my heart how much you really cared. I appreciate all that you have done, and I feel richly blessed to have had a sister like you. You will be greatly missed, LOVE ALWAYS, from your brother. Rest peacefully, love you.”
Comments from her son Sean: " A beautiful loving woman that was loved by so many. Our hearts lay heavy as we mourn and are saddened by this devastating loss. It breaks my heart to lose the most important person in the world to me, my precious mother. It saddens me everyday just being reminded of the memories we shared over the years. We all can't stop thinking of all the laughter we shared and good times we had. You will never be forgotten my dear mother. You were my entire world. Words can't describe how much you will be missed. We love you so much."
"You will never be forgotten my precious love; you were my entire world, my everything. Words can't express how much you will be missed by all of us. Until we meet again mom I love you."
