Nicola was born in Satriano Di Lucania, Italy on August 27, 1929, he was a person with a great sense of humor. He always told stories about events and life as a young child growing up with many siblings, work duties, and responsibilities by which he instilled onto his children, grandchildren and everybody else that were around. Nicola had a very strong work ethic from a very young age, he was herding animals in the mountains of Satriano and neighboring towns before he was 10 years old. In one of his stories he recounted how at the age of 12 years old he would help one of his cousins who was a stonemason and this cousin was very impressed on how many stones he could place on a wall and from there his cousin told him that he was not going to herd animals anymore and that he was going to be a Stone Mason because he was going to hire him after he spoke with his father. At the age of around 21 he migrated to Uruguay in South America to join many countrymen and relatives. He found work opportunities and worked there for many years as a Mason and after about 8 years he went back to Italy to get married to Antonietta. After spending almost, a year in Italy, he and his wife migrated to Uruguay to start a family. In 1977, Nicola got an opportunity to migrate to the United States with the entire family, it would not be easy especially for the language barrier but the few words that he picked up and the Italian hand gestures somehow people always understood him. He always worked hard to provide for his family, loved to have a large garden. Nicola liked to travel to Italy and Uruguay as he had family and many friends to see and catch up on the good old days (childhood in Italy).
He was always in a joking spirit, and we really enjoyed that about him. Until almost the last days he recounted stories of his childhood, we were truly fortunate to have him with us for as long as we did and in good health. He will be missed but not forgotten.
