It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Louis Michael Damiano, a devoted husband, dedicated father, compassionate physician, and cherished friend, who left us on August 7, 2024, at the age of 91. Dr. Damiano's kind heart, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on the community he served.
Born on September 21, 1932, Lou grew up in North Adams, Massachusetts with a passion for skiing and basketball. He pursued a biology degree, graduating from Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1955, and earning his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Class of 1960. Following a surgical internship at Albany Medical Center, he completed his Otolaryngology Residency at the University of Maryland.
Dr. Damiano served his country honorably as a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany from 1962-64. Following his military service, he practiced as a board-certified Otolaryngologist in Cheverly and Greenbelt, Maryland, from 1967 to 2002, serving at both Prince George's General Hospital and Doctors Community Hospital. His clinical expertise, coupled with his genuine care and empathy, earned him the deep respect and gratitude of his patients and colleagues alike.
In his personal life, Lou was a beacon of love and support. He met his wife, Mary Frances (née Huesman) while he was a medical student, and together they built a life marked by mutual respect, love, and shared dedication to their children. He was a devoted father to their children, Louis, Michael, and Anne Marie. His family was the heart of his world, and he reveled in the joy and laughter that filled their home, especially around the dinner table.
An avid sailor and skier, Lou embraced each moment of life with enthusiasm and joy. He had a keen passion for providing the best educational opportunities for his children and was an ardent supporter of the University of Maryland men's basketball team and the Baltimore Orioles.
