Katarina Szabo, M.D. passed away on November 11, 2022, at the age of 94, at her home in Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Szabo was born January 12, 1928, in Modry Kamen, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Dr. Arpad Schweitzer and Gizela Schweitzer. She received her medical degree in 1953. She married Karol Szabo in 1952, and they had two daughters, Susan and Eva. As a result of the Russian occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968, the family emigrated to the United States and settled in New York. Dr. Szabo learned English and went back to residency training in pathology, subsequently serving for over 30 years as a pathologist and the Chief of Microbiology at Nassau County Medical Center in Hempstead, NY. Her husband Karol passed away in 2006, and Dr. Szabo moved to Rockville to be closer to family. She was a resident of Ring House, an independent senior living facility. Dr. Szabo is survived by her brother, Paul Schweitzer and his wife Magda Eisinger; two daughters, Susan Szabo and her husband Robert Dressler, and Eva Szabo and her husband Hunter Prillaman, as well as four grandchildren (Jeremy (married to Jane Seymour) and Gabrielle Dressler, and Nathan (married to Cyndi Chen) and Ruthie Prillaman) and two great-grandchildren (Louisa and Archie Dressler). A memorial service will be held in January at Ring House, 1801 E. Jefferson Street, Rockville, Maryland.
