Missing our talks and breakfast at Dempsey’s. John was a wealth of knowledge and a mentor. I think of him often.

I think about you now more then ever and the footprint that you left! .  I waited because good byes are so final.  But, I miss your wisdom and that infectious smile that you shined! 

After hearing of the loss of your sweet grandson Andre I realized how short life truly can be …so I had to say your missed.  I wish you had wrote that book about all your incredible adventures and legacy.  But, your legend lives on ….not a day goes by that your not thought of….:).  You left an imprint  …and empowered communities to grow!

My deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time. I will always remember the early days of partnering and working together with John on business ventures. He was very supportive and I  welcomed him as a mentor as I launched my company in the early nineties, and even worked with Houston Associates for a short period of time.  I will miss our networking lunches filled with great client  stories of successes and challenges, his seasoned and encouraging advice, and his warm, generous spirit. Rest in peace, John!

It was an honor and a privilege knowing your amazing father. His smile would bring so much joy to me when he would wave at me coming home from school, or when I was at the mailbox and he was pulling down the street. 

From working the many events which your loving father put on, I know he always made everyone smile. His smile was contagious and filled the room instantly with joy and happiness.

I am basting in sadness for the lost of JH - John R. Houston III.  My  condolences to his families and other love ones.  I remember first meeting John and his late wife Barbara Houston at a  mutual acquaintance social gathering.   Many years ago he was so down to earth then and right until his transition.  My memories of the various gatherings will be never forgotten and I know the light of John Houston will never be gone.    He was quite a classy man, fun to be around, very knowledgeable on various subjects, love for all types of music and love of good and delicious foods.  I am forever grateful for being able to share times with him and the inner circle of all his and my dear special friends.  Wow, could not see him for awhile and it would be  just like we saw each other yesterday.    Just words of encouragement and strength from God, I know it is a challenge for the family. However, during this difficult time, we can take courage in the scripture recorded in Isaiah 33:24 that soon "no resident will say I am sick", What a wonderful promise from God to look forward too! I ask God to give all of John’s family, love ones, friends, coworkers, associates and  of course his precious furry baby strength and encouragement each second of the day and know that he also said just hold on because  “joy will come in the morning”.  Reading all the messages I see he has touched many lives by his trueness, sharing, caring and loving spirit.  God bless all of you.  RIP John and you will be truly missed.

Your dad was a good man who was well liked and respected. He mentored many and befriended many more. I feel honored that I had the opportunity to have known him.  I truly enjoyed our late  evening sessions when we solved the world's problems from our barstools.

Dear Houston Family, 

Please know that I share in your loss of John. What a wonderful person to be around!  So unassuming, yet when he spoke, there were no questions where he stood.  His zest for life taught me that anything is possible! I don't believe he missed an opportunity or left a stone unturned. I met John through family, and I was grateful when he and Keyfi became my friends.  They are both missed dearly, and have left an indelible presence in the lives they've touched. I pray for comfort for all who loved John and may his life serve as an example for us to live and serve to the fullest.  God Bless!

My condolences to John's family over his passing. I  represented John a few years ago over a dispute with Montgomery County and  he was one of the finest gentleman I have ever known, so much so that I told him that.

I will miss the late lunches and the annual holiday dinners with Barbara and Alice.  What laughter and joy we shared getting together talking about our time at Houston Assoc. and sharing our travels. He was my friend and a mentor.  I enjoyed our conversations about life, family and the advice he gave me about work/life balance.  I’m still working on that one 😀 . He also  shared and supported my work with empowering women and girls and social justice at the YWCA/NCA.  I feel so blessed for all his kindness and support.

Our hearts are broken. We thank you for sharing your family with the Balogun family.  Being neighbors living directly across from one another has never been a dull moment. We have always found a reason to be in touch.
 
John was an amazing neighbor. May  his spirt be with us forever and his love forever fill our hearts. The peace and kindness he had, fill our lives, so we too can learn and fully understand the importance of sharing and giving ( time &  love). Some years ago, I was invited by Ulysses Glee to a celebration at the Houston family home in Silver Spring.  It was at that celebratory event in which I first meet Mr. & Mrs. Houston.  Upon greeting them, they both immediately responded with John and Barbara, please.  They were such a wonderful couple, full of warmth, love of family and friend to many.  
When I learned of John’s transition, I remembered that treasured moment and rejoice in having had the opportunity to have been a part of their journey. 
I strongly believe that God is grieving right alongside us as He knows our strength and pain.  
Hold tight to your memories and always know how much you are loved.

Michael and I were very saddened with the transition into heaven of our beloved friend and neighbor, John R. Houston, III. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.  We are truly sorry for your loss. 

We will cherish the fond memories of beautiful moments shared together through many social gatherings and celebrations. We could always count on John’s wonderful smile and great sense of humor. John has truly left an indelible mark on our lives. He was kind, thoughtful, wise, and intuitive. He touched our soul in many ways. I worked for Houston Associates for many years. Although my more laissez faire work/management style inevitably put me in conflict with its by-the-book, military, chain-of-command management, I always liked John. My favorites times were when he and I “snuck away” from the office and had lunch at a local pub. While there, we put aside office politics. Instead, we talked about everything under the sun, with a heavy emphasis on philosophy. Those were the best of times. My sympathy to his family, especially to his son Johnny, who also has a soft spot in my heart.

John was a kind and generous person. Gladys and I enjoyed the company we shared with him.

My brother John was like a father to me , especially when our Dad passed. He told me the things that had to be said and pulled no punches, just like our dad. As we grew older we grew closer. Goodbye my dear friend John Houston! Twenty five years ago this man took a chance on me to head up the contracts division of the fastest growing company in DC~Houston Associates, Inc. I was very young...but he believed in me. John gave so much to so many..he was truly selfless, wise, and had a heart of gold! We would always have a beer and talk things out! I am so thankful last January I made the call to see how he was doing as he was strongly on my mind. I am so thankful I had the opportunity to tell him how much he meant to me!  John, you were loved dearly by family, friends and colleagues. I can see those golf balls flying in heaven!♥️ Until we have another beer...big hug and kisses my friend! Happy Birthday Big Guy! I met John in the early 80's as his landlord in Silver Spring, Maryland, I then became not only a landlord but a  very good friends with him and his beautiful late wife Barbara. Subsequently,  they purchased my home and we later became business partners in many real estate transactions, I have so many memories at their home and especially the Xmas parties. There aren't many people that I have met over the years where nothing bothered them and some one who was so kind and gentle. This was John, who was both a friend and partner. Remember a friend is someone who has your back, no matter what. They watch out for you and ensure you are not in danger.  They will never purposely lead you into danger making decisions that aren't good for you, this was John. I will dearly  miss my Friend of many years. 

 May God be with you until we meet again.
