Colleen Stewart Genzer of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 67. She fought valiantly against multiple myeloma and kidney failure until the end. She was born to Jack and Elsie Stewart (who predeceased her) in Wisconsin. Colleen grew up in Cudahy, Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She remained a Green Bay Packers fan all her life. She taught for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer on the Island of Yap, in Micronesia, where she met her husband, Jeff.
In 1980, Colleen and Jeff settled in Maryland. Colleen worked at the law firm of Kass and Skalet for several years then left to raise her four wonderful children. She is survived by her husband (Jeff) of 41 years, her daughters Sarah and Melissa, and sons Ben (Lizzie) and Mark (Kara). She has three loving grandchildren, Charlotte, Isabelle and Louis. She is also survived by her seven siblings, Dan (Diane), Patty (Ron), Bill (Amy), Bob (Julie), Jackie (Tim), Chris (Jeanne), Andy and many loving nieces and nephews.
Colleen will be fondly remembered forever as the rock of the family, a loving wife and parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt and friend. She was the consummate organizer and planned all family and friends’ activities and travel for decades. She was taken from us far too soon.
On Sunday, September 17, 2023, a memorial service will begin at 12:00 noon, with visitation to be held starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home (11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904). A luncheon will follow the memorial service.
