He was born November 25, 1923 in Jackson, TN., to the late Adolphus B. Bailey and Addie Cheek Bailey. He served in the United States Army during World War II; he was a member of Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston, MO. where he served as Chairman of The Board of Trustees and taught Sunday school for over fifty years.
On June 25, 1944, in Portageville, MO., he married Bonnie Hogue Bailey, who preceded him in death on December 12, 2014.
He worked at Lewis Furniture as well as Kingsway Furniture in Sikeston, MO. in sales and management for fifty-nine years before retiring in 2008.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Sylvia Bailey of Sikeston, MO.; one son-in-law, Jim Smith of Sikeston, MO.; one brother, Danny Bailey of Cassville, MO.; two sisters, Peggy Bush of Oklahoma and Susie Dodd of Springfield, MO.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Holly Smith; one grandson, Andrew Bailey; six brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Tanner Street Church Of God in Sikeston, MO. with the
Rev. John Neeley, pastor of Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston, MO., officiating.
Burial will follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO. with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Smith, Tyler Moore, Tanner Smith, Chris Horrell, Caden Bailey and Jerod Posey.
