Billy "Bill" Howard Hailey

He was born on February 11, 1931 in Bertrand, MO. to the late Herschel and Ruby McKinney Hailey.

On September 3, 1950 in Sikeston, MO. he married Mary Lee Lane Hailey who survives of the home in Sikeston, MO.

Bill was very active at Concordia Lutheran Church, serving in all elected positions of the board and elders. He had a very strong singing voice. He was active in the choir. He was a soloist and used his talent to serve God singing in church services. He was a Bible class teacher for most of his adult life.

He was active in little league serving as a director of Musial League and as official scorekeeper. He was an avid fan and supporter of youth baseball In Sikeston.

Bill worked in several occupations throughout his life and thoroughly enjoyed each. He began his career with his very dear friends, Murrie and Frances Farris at Fair Grocery. He worked for the Ernest Harper family at McKnight-Keaton Grocery Company. He owned and operated Hailey Mobil Service, and later, he and his brother, Herschel, partnered in Hailey Bothers Oil Company. He became a certified Ford Tractor mechanic and worked at C & S Ford until its closure. He then co-owned and operated Hailey’s Auto Service with his son. He worked with his wife as a Sears Authorized Merchant until their retirement in 1992.

In addition to his wife, Mary Lee, of seventy-one years of marriage he is survived by one son Jim (Debbie) Hailey of Sikeston, MO.; two grandchildren, Dawn Woodward of New Smyrna Beach, FL. and Stephen (Becky) Hailey of Delano, TN.; one step-grandson, Bill Roberts of Sikeston, MO.; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers, James R Hailey and Herschel Hailey Jr., one sister, Wanda (Hailey) Ozment, one grandson-in-law Chris “Woody” Woodward.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church in Sikeston, MO. where funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Matthew Berry of Concordia Lutheran Church officiating.

Pallbearers will be: Tim Bartlett, Gary Ozment, Dwayne Lorenze, Bud Werner, Jiggs Moore, and Mike Allen.

Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.
