Funeral services for Tex Carlton Mercer, 79 will be held on Friday, October 13th. Visitation will begin at 12:00 and end at 2 pm. Graveside services will immediately follow. Bro. Crawford Williams & Bro Wayne DesLattes will be officiating.
Tex was born on January 26, 1938. He entered into eternal rest on October 9, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
Tex was the son of E.B Mercer and Lizzy Bell Woodly Mercer and he came from a large family of 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Tex was the baby of the family and everyone knew it. Tex was raised with his nieces and nephews and loved them very much.
Tex grew up in Elysian Fields, Texas and graduated from Elysian Fields High School in 1956.
Tex never met a stranger and loved the Lord with all of his heart. He loved telling jokes and stories and could have the whole room cracking up in a matter of minutes. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved the Dallas Cowboys and watching Nascar. He loved going to the races at Boothill on Saturday nights. Tex owned Mercer’s Auto Service for 30+ years until he became ill. Even after his retirement, he could still tell someone how to fix anything even if it was over the phone.
Tex is predeceased by his parents, E.B. Mercer and Lizzy Bell Woodley Mercer; Son, Dennis Greene; brother, Gordon and sisters, Lindy, Dot and Mary.
His sisters, Daisy and Peggy, survive him; brother, James and sister in law Dorothy. He also leaves his beloved children, Mike Greene and wife Susan; Pam Greene and fiancé James Martin; DeAnn Mercer McNeil and boyfriend James Kline; James Brock “Bubba Mercer and wife Kiley. Tex also leaves behind his 13 grandchildren; Austin, Ashley and husband Doug, Mallory, Nolan, Maddie, Brooke, Micah, Steele, Slade, Trent, Hannah, Liam and Taylor and 5 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Causey, David Day, Randy Hawthorne, Josh Nickles, Jason Hay & John Hammons
Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, grandsons and John Harper.
