Sue was a lifelong servant, dedicated to helping all those around her in whatever capacity she could both professionally and personally, Sue started her career as a teenager working Louisiana Cotton Gin, then ArkLa Gas for several years. She later found her true calling as an administrative assistant in the educational field, first at Fair Park High School for many years and later as the assistant to the Chancellor of LSU Shreveport. Many students that passed through her doors will tell you that she treated them as her own children, showering them with love, compassion and wise counsel. She touched the hearts and lives of hundreds of these young people, who she lovingly referred to as “her kids.”
Sue was raised on a farm in rural Caddo Parrish and never lost her love for working the land. She often said that she was never happier than when “digging in the dirt.” Friends, family and neighbors always benefitted from her bountiful crops of fresh vegetables. She was also a strong Christian and adhered to Christ’s instructions to “love God and love others” in everything she did throughout her life. She loved nothing better than studying God’s word and sharing what she learned with her family and the many bible study classes she led over the years. Her Bible was never far from her side. She had a beautiful voice and sang in her Church Choir for as long as she was physically able. Even when dementia robbed her of nearly every other memory Sue still remembered every word to many hymns and could effortlessly quote dozens of Bible verses.
Sue’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved spending time with close friends and was active in several bridge clubs throughout her adult years. More than anything else, she loved loving others and that love expressed itself in many ways. From a word of encouragement to a fresh-baked cake or casserole, a reassuring pat or a patented Sue Carroll hug accompanied by a heart felt “Love you, Sugar.”
