Mable Marie Havens Johnston, age 94, of Shreveport, Louisiana went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Marie was born January 7, 1930 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Charles and Mary Havens.
After earning her degree as a Registered Nurse, Marie taught nursing at Northwestern State. She then trained for the mission field at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She served with her husband as a Baptist Missionary in Nigeria from 1958 through 1991. Marie loved painting and spent many enjoyable hours painting landscapes near the mission stations. She planted trees everywhere she lived and so blessed those who moved into the homes she left. Marie used her nursing training to encourage the mission team and pastor families to practice healthy living. Marie was particularly proud of her grandchildren, and loved her family so much. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her best and loved her most.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Johnston, Sr.; parents, Charles Franklin Havens, Sr. and Mary Thompson Havens; brother, Charles F. Havens, Jr.; sister, Nancy H. Hudson.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, J. David Johnston, Jr.; daughter, Patricia J. Widener (Kyle); grandchildren, Kim J. Frederick (Chad), J. Michael Johnston, Katherine, Anita, Lucy, and James Widener; great grandchildren, Kyndall and Kynzie Frederick.
A Visitation for Marie will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Joe Webb officiating. Burial will take place at Centuries Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at First Baptist Church Shreveport.
