Imogene Jenell Everett Benson was born March 10, 1927 in Olney, Texas to the late Ernest Houston Everett and Imo Louise Alvey Everett. After graduating from Cotton Valley High School in 1944, she attended Norton Business School in Shreveport, Louisiana. She received her secretary certificate and went to work for United Gas until she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart in 1946, Robert Benson. Together they raised two beautiful girls. When her girls were older she went to work for Caddo Parish School Administration in the purchasing department.
Imogene and her husband enjoyed gardening, cooking, waterskiing, and camping. They traveled to numerous states. Mom excelled in sewing, making ceramics and jewelry, raising African Violets and loved working in her flower gardens. She loved fashion and had the talent to look great even in her casual clothes. She was a dedicated caregiver to her husband and devoted mother. She loved her family, her church, and church family at Ford Park Baptist. She missed this part of her life once she stopped driving at 90 years old.
Imogene passed away on December 2, 2024 in Shreveport, Louisiana at the age of 97. She is now reunited with her husband, Robert Benson; daughter, Darlene Milliron; son-in-law, Kenneth Mathis; parents and sister, Bobbye Jones. She will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Gaila Mathis; son-in-law, Henry Milliron; grandchildren, Monte Mathis, Heather Barney (John) and Timme Milliron; great grandchildren, Leora, Allison, Morgan, Rhea, John Robert and Hazel Barney; sister, Raynell Dodson; along with numerous nieces and nephews, that she truly loved.
A visitation for Imogene will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. A celebration of life at graveside will occur Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Forest Park Cemetery West, 4000 Meriwether Rd, Shreveport, LA 71109.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Janet Vance with Professional Sitters, for her years of dedicated care, friendship and laughter she provided to Mom and our family. We would like to also like to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice especially Marquita, RN and Cassie, RN for their guidance and care for our Mom. Mom loved her doctors, Dr. Blanchard and Dr. San Pedro, for their caring and devotion.
