Gloria Henley Russell was born July 31, 1933 in Castor, Louisiana to the late Lorina Lann Henley and Henry Charles Henley. She graduated from Castor High, where she received numerous awards for academics. She retired from Western Electric as a phone assembler.
Gloria was deeply devoted to her faith. She was a lifelong reader of her Bible. The book of Revelation was her favorite book in which she found comfort and strength in its teachings. She was a cherished member of the Red Hat Society, where she made many friends. Gloria enjoyed gardening, quilting, fishing, cooking, crocheting and sewing. Most of her friends and family will remember her singing and listening to Elvis.
Gloria went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at the age of 91. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Clyde E. Russell, her parents, and numerous brothers and sisters. She will be deeply missed by all of those she loved.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sherry Shugart and her husband Billy, Toni Giles and her husband Bill, and Suzanne Abbitt and her husband Joseph, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A visitation for Gloria will be held Monday, November 18, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. A celebration of life will occur Monday, November 18, 2024 at 1:00 PM, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. A graveside committal will occur Monday, November 18, 2024 at 3:00 PM at New Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1860 LA-153, Castor, LA 71016. Officiating the services will be Pastor Chris Willcutt. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Jack Brown, Tyler Brown, Hunter Blair, Daniel Boss, Ben Kline and Dusty Brock.
