Shreveport, LA Gene A. “Buddy” Jackson, 85, was born March 17, 1929 in Gandy, LA to the late Charles A. and Cora Woods Jackson. Buddy as he was known will be sorely missed. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather to his wife Margaret LeNoir and family. Gene entered the Navy at 17 and served aboard the battleship, USS Iowa and the USS Helena (BB61 heavy cruiser) in China. He also served in the Korean War as a US Marine alongside his brothers, Charlie, Jessie, and Claude. Gene retired from the Shreveport Police Dept. as a Major after 30 years of service. He enjoyed playing golf and attending every Evangel football game with his longtime friends, Jack, Frank, and Johnny Zator.
Buddy is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Kathryn LeNoir Jackson; sisters, Virginia Pittman, Louise Bickham, and Helen Corley; brothers, Charlie, Claude, Bobby, Curtis, Jessie, and Frank.
Buddy is survived by three daughters, Jeanne Jackson, Melody Smith and husband Jackie, and Patricia Jackson; four grandchildren, Chad Halsell and wife Kendra, Cody Smith and Britney, Shenna Smith and husband Andrew, and Madolyn Smith; numerous grandchildren; sisters, Dean King and husband Douglas, Martha Lynn and husband Chuck, and Jimmy Jackson and wife Bobby Jean; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A service honoring Buddy’s life will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2014, 1:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA Officiating will be Chaplain Buck Furlow. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from 5 until 7 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
