Gary Lyle Hughes was born May 25, 1935 in Petaluma, California to the late Juanita Elizabeth Hughes and Lyle James Hughes. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1957-1969 and attained the rank of captain. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas Arlington.
Gary was a selfless individual who lived to help others. He served as a caregiver for many years. He will also be remembered for his extraordinary commitment to donate his blood, with over 80 gallons of blood in his lifetime, saving countless lives in the process. In 2018, he was recognized on KSLA as a Hometown Hero. Gary enjoyed cooking, gardening, electronic and reading. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in Bossier City, Louisiana, at the age of 89. Gary is now reunited with his parents, and two sisters, Anita Fautley and Alene Poe. His honor and courage will be treasured and always remembered.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Bradley Hughes and spouse, Phyllis; daughter, Debe Hennigan and spouse, Ronny; grandchildren, Deanna Glaze, Dustin Allen, Kendall Robinson, Cameron Hughes, Kalie Hughes Frantz, Collin Rachal-Hughes and several great grandchildren; along with his lifelong best friend, Carl Townsend.
A graveside service will be held to celebrate his life at a later date.
