Elizabeth Alyce Jones Long went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. After a very long illness, she looked forward to joining loved ones and friends who had gone before her.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, H.P. and Cora Lee Jones; baby daughter, Elizabeth Ann Jones; husbands, Kyle Jones and Wallace Long; sister, Jewel Reeves; and brother, Audrey Shaw; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Born in Shreveport on July 14, 1924, Elizabeth graduated from Fair Park High School and attended Louisiana Tech University. Employed by Southwestern Bell in the 1940s, Elizabeth shared the story of working there on a quiet Sunday when suddenly the entire switchboard lit up all at once. She later learned Pearl Harbor had been bombed, and that day, December 7, 1941, would become known as D-Day and the start of World War II.
Elizabeth was an accomplished porcelain artist who made beautiful dolls, dinnerware, and other decorative items. She won many awards for her work and was known and loved by porcelain artists in Louisiana and other states. Her greatest joy was making dolls for family members and close friends. As youngster, her grandchildren loved making ceramic items with Nanny and spent many happy hours with her.
In recent years, Elizabeth brought smiles to many faces as she sang old gospel hymns and other songs she loved. Her favorites were “Onward Christian Soldiers” and “You Are My Sunshine.” Staff at Lindan Park Nursing and Rehabilitation, Richardson, Texas, made frequent visits to her room to request songs, and often commented that Elizabeth’s singing made their day.
Elizabeth is survived by son Kyle Jones Long and wife Becky, Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Jan Foster and husband J.R., Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Russ Foster and wife Lara, Frisco, Texas; Kelley Powell, Houston, Texas; David Foster and wife Kristin, Melissa, Texas; Matt Long and wife Holly, Tucson, Arizona; Kim Udell and husband Conner, Gunnison, Colorado. Great-grandchildren Preston, Mary Rose, and Bennett Foster; Joseph Powell; Nathan, Jami, and Jilli Foster; Colton, Sienna, and Jake Long; Kylee and Gage Udell. She is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
Family would like to express special thanks to staff at Lindan Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who took special care of Elizabeth in her last years.
