Dorothy Barras, age 87, of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Dorothy was born in Washington, Louisiana, and was the epitome of a loving mother and dedicated homemaker. Her children were the center of her world, and she devoted her life to making sure they felt cherished, supported, and loved. Dorothy was a woman whose warmth and kindness knew no bounds. She was always there for her family, offering wisdom, comfort, and encouragement, no matter the circumstances. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and love, where her children always felt safe and welcome.
As a homemaker, Dorothy took great pride in creating a nurturing and peaceful environment for her family. She was an excellent cook, and her meals brought the family together around the table. Whether it was holiday gatherings, birthdays, or everyday meals, Dorothy’s cooking was something her loved ones cherished. She was also a talented seamstress, creating beautiful clothing and home goods that were a reflection of her care and creativity. Her meticulous attention to detail in every project she undertook was a testament to the love she poured into everything she did.
Dorothy’s selflessness extended beyond her family. She was known for her caring nature and the way she always put others first. She was the kind of woman who would lend a helping hand to a neighbor in need or offer words of encouragement to anyone going through a tough time. Her generosity and warmth left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
Dorothy was an active member of St. Catherine’s Church and found great joy in participating in church activities when she was able. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she took comfort in giving back to her community. Whether it was volunteering for church events or simply offering a kind word to those around her, Dorothy’s presence was a source of light to many.
She is survived by her daughters: Donna Kallbreier (Gene), Cathy Watson (Harold), Carol Roth, Debbie Barras, and Cindy Darcy (Pete). Dorothy is also survived by her sister, Norma Salahshour (Fara), her sister Roberta Brassieur, a long time family friend Gwen McFarland, and her grandchildren: Christopher, Hailey, Sydney, Morgan, Shane, Anna Beth, Matt, and Thomas. Dorothy was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews and great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Barras; her parents, David and Elvira Brassieur; and her sisters Beatrice Lovett and Helen Tatum.
A visitation will be held in Dorothy’s honor on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71108. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00 AM, with a graveside service at 12:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Park.
Dorothy will be laid to rest at Centuries Memorial Park, Good Shepherd Lot, Grave 4.
Serving as pallbearers are Thomas Roth, Matt McClure, Shane McClure, Christopher Ward, Harold Watson, and Gene Kallbreier.
