Funeral services for Country Music Singer Claude King, 90, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Centuries Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Billy Franks and Rev. Tim Maloy officiating. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday March 12, 2013 at the Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
Claude was born February 5, 1923 in Keithville, LA and passed away March 7, 2013 in Shreveport after a lengthy illness. Mr. King was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He learned to love the outdoors, hunting and fishing at a very early age. His love for music was evident at an early age and he bought his first guitar at the age of twelve. In high school and college, he was an outstanding athlete in baseball and football. He formed a band with Buddy Attaway and Tillman Franks called the Rainbow Boys, and they started playing around Shreveport in their spare time. He wrote and recorded many songs throughout his career probably the most recognized song was “Wolverton Mountain” which reached the # 1 position on the charts on June 30, 1962. He was inducted into the Louisiana Country Music Hall of Fame and inducted into the Walk of Stars in Shreveport.
Mr. King was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jeana Marie King; brother, George, Perry, and Henry and sisters, Bessie,Marion, and Annie Mae Attaway.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara King; sons, Duane Coco King; Bradley T. King, and Jerome Jay King and wife Julie St.Onge; grandchildren, Brandi Coco King, Dustin Coco King, Stacey King, Christopher C. King, Claudette King, Leigh Anne King, and numerous great grandchildren, sister-in-law Shirley Corrales, numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Shan Allison, Don Sims, Davy Daniels, Russell King, Robert King, Albert Mazzone, Mark Chamness, and Joseph Brown.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dustin King, Hunt Powell, Paul Brown, Bud Christian, and Ben Cato.
