Clara Amelia Stewart Westbrook, a 76-year resident of Shreveport, Louisiana went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the age of 95. She was born June 10, 1926 in Bivins, Texas to Jesse Tolbert Stewart and Rubye Vermel Shine Stewart. She retired from Lucent Technologies.
She was very active in her community for many years, joining many organizations. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years, holding the title of Worthy Matron and Grand Electa and a member of the Sunset Star for many of those years. She was a devoted member of Church of Christ in Shreveport for more than 70 years.
Clara was shy and liked to blend into the background. She would help others without being asked. She enjoyed sewing, making clothes and quilts later in life, arts and craft, cooking and playing the piano. Clara treasured the times she had traveling with the love of her life, her husband, Kelley. She like collecting cookbooks, collecting thousands of them during her lifetime. She dedicated her life to her family, showering them with so much love. Her family was truly her legacy in which she was so proud.
Left to cherish her memory are living legacies, two daughters Pamela Williams and Diane Soderstrom and her husband, Douglass; four grandchildren, Dennis Williams and his wife Jessica, Melinda Garrett and her husband, Stephen, Carl Soderstrom, and Timothy Updegrove and his wife Moria; five great grandchild, Chesli Sheets and her husband Tyler, Kandice Updegrove, Anna Courington and her husband, Drew, Nicholas Keith, and Alexander Williams; four great-great grandchildren, Loralye Bartlett, Amelia Bartlett Hunter Sheets and Louie Courington; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Kelley Clinton Westbrook; son, Dale Clinton Westbrook; granddaughter, Amanda Dawn Calloway; parents, Jesse and Rubye Stewart; sisters, Anna Lilly Shine, Patie Frances Cowan and Betty Ruth Harper. She also was preceded by all of her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, most cousins and multiple nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Clara will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Darwin Hunter will be officiating the services. She will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park in American Heritage Garden. Honorary pallbearers will be Alexander Williams , Dennis Williams, Nicholas Keith, Stephen Garrett, Carl Soderstrom, Douglass Soderstrom and Clifford McDole. The family requests that anyone Ms. Westbrook made a quilt for to bring it and share with everyone at the service.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Staff at Azalea Estates for the loving care they gave not only to Mother but also to all the residents. Everyone there is treated as if they are your very own family and they are loved.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Clara's memory may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Masonic Dyslexia Program, St. Judes Children's Research Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
