Funeral Services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas and will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Shiner, Texas with Brother Lyman Merenes officiating.
Albert was born on January 6, 1916 in Sweet Home, Texas. He was the son of John and Mary (Kuehanek) Zbranek. Albert enlisted in the Civilian Corps before joining the Army in 1941 to 1945, and during that time he spent 2 years as a P.O.W. in Germany, Italy in the Northern Area. He was one of the last survivors of the Death March and spent time in prison and the stockade. He was a prisoner of the Germans and the Russians and he escaped and was on the run when Armistice was declared. Albert was a Disabled Veteran due to the treatment he was subjected to as a P.O.W.
He is preceded in death by parents and one brother-Bohumil “Tom” Zbranek. Albert is survived by his family Lillie Mae and R.L. Shafer, Linda and Fred Valenta, Tyann and Danny Fowles, Timothy and Karen Shafer, Lamar and Susan Shafer, Cousins and friends. Albert also loves the outdoor and his cherished hobby was taking pictures of flowers and nature. Albert loved to be with his family.
Pallbearers will be; Timothy Shafer, Lamar Shafer, Dalton Shafer, Danny Fowler, Frank Gaydos, and Robert Fuselier.
In lieu of flower, donation may be made the Crown Hospice and the Lolita Volunteer Fire Department.
