Mildred Muriel Williams

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Resthaven Funeral Home of Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Muriel was born July 10, 1930 in Goodnight, Oklahoma to Charles Leonard and Dora Lavinia (Barnes) Escoe. She attended school in Cushing. Muriel married Donald Russell Williams on March 28, 1948 in Cushing. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church.

One of Muriel's passions was baking and decorating cakes. The first one she made was for her son Michael and wife Barbara's wedding. She established a tradition making clown cakes for the first birthdays of each of her 4 grandchildren, and enjoyed making cakes for friends and family thereafter. Muriel taught herself to crochet and made many throws, coasters, and doilies, as well as many crocheted dolls for friends and family throughout the years. She crocheted the entire Strawberry Shortcake collection for her granddaughter, and crocheted a doll for each of her grandsons when they were young. Muriel kept scrapbooks with pictures of the cakes she created and the many dolls she crocheted.

Muriel loved to listen to Christian music, and those songs brought her much comfort through the years. She was also an avid reader of Mayo Clinic and WebMD books, as she had an interest in things of the medical nature. She enjoyed retelling many stories of her childhood, as well as stories of her life with her husband and children. She had many items with the Serenity Prayer on them, as she loved that prayer.

Muriel was an avid seamstress. Not only did she make clothes for herself and her children in their early days, she also sewed for her daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Blouses and pajamas were among the things she made for them. She also made matching robes, in different colors, for her mother, her daughter-in-law, and herself. Muriel made large Christmas stockings for her mother and the four grandchildren. She made her granddaughter, Michelle, a large Raggedy Ann doll, as well.

Frequently, she reminisced about the many get-togethers and sing-alongs on different occasions at the homes of various family members. She loved those times. During her last years, she spoke of how much she missed them.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Don Williams; parents, Charles Leonard and Dora Lavinia Escoe; daughter, Donna Sue Williams; sisters, Dessie Jarvis, Ruby Osborne, Juanita McKenzie, Lulamae McAulay; brother, Harold Escoe.

Muriel is survived by her son, Michael and his wife Barbara Williams of Waynesville, MO; four grandchildren, Michelle and her husband Larry Nelson of Ferndale, WA; Brandon Williams of Tucson, AZ; Jason and his wife Brooke Williams of Phoenix, AZ; Kevin and his wife Leanne Williams of Tucson, AZ; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; eight nieces, three nephews, and numerous other extended family members and friends.

A funeral service for Muriel will be Wednesday, March 15th, 1:00 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, 44909 Hwy 3, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74801. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, Oklahoma.
